History - Our Heritage In Vintage & Classic Cars

Mark's vintage car career started at a few hours old when he was collected from the Maternity Hospital by his father, Malcolm, in a 1930s Lagonda M45 pillarless saloon.

As a child he spent many hours in the dickey seat of Dad's 1929 Sunbeam 20.9 travelling to race meetings, hill climbs, rallies and pub meets.

A few years in Uganda in the 1960s saw Mark watching the East African Safari Rally, as it passed near his home and then ( with all 5 of the family) crossing the Serengeti, as part of a 3000 mile safari, in a Fiat 850.

Next came 9 years in the Royal Engineers when Mark's everyday transport was a much loved 1957 Triumph TR3.

The vintage theme continued when he met his wife, Debi, in Brittany, France on the Lorient Rally when she was in her parent's Rolls Royce Phantom II. He persuaded her to join him in his family's 1926 Alvis 12/50 and this eventually led to a marriage proposal on the eve of the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run.

Mark and family regularly enjoy vintage car rallies and events at home and abroad even including driving to Corfu for the Greek Rally in a 1928 Humber 14/40 tourer.

More recently, Mark has been successful in vintage racing at home with the VSCC and in France with his 1930 Austin7 Ulster.
